Abstract

The transition from traditional cloud computing to edge computing represents a paradigm shift in data management. As the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G connectivity continue to expand, the need for real-time data processing and reduced latency becomes paramount. Cloud and edge computing are not mutually exclusive but work in synergy, creating a "fog computing" architecture that optimizes data processing. Edge computing, with its local data processing capabilities, is ideal for applications requiring low latency and rapid responses, such as real-time monitoring and smart devices. The edge computing market is expected to reach 7 billion by 2026, driven by the growing adoption of edge devices in various industries. These edge devices, strategically placed at the network's periphery, enable local data collection, processing, and decision-making, reducing the burden on central cloud data centers. Edge computing revolutionizes IoT data management by addressing challenges like data volume, security, latency, and data diversity. It enables local processing, reduces latency, filters data at the source, and enhances security. The article highlights several use cases for edge computing in IoT data management, including health data monitoring, predictive maintenance, smart grids, autonomous vehicles, and smart homes. Edge-to-cloud integration offers benefits, including enhanced agility, modernized applications, hybrid cloud utilization, scalability, reliability, and cost savings. The rise of edge computing reshapes the tech landscape, enabling lower latency, real-time decision-making, and efficient data management. It paves the way for innovative services and applications, transforming various industries and shaping the future of technology.
