ECHOES OF WAKE-UP Realising the Impact of The Seeds of Student Pro-Palestine Protests

Abstract

Universities have historically been epicentres of student activism, with their role as forums for addressing both national and international issues well-documented. This paper explores the nature of student pro-Palestine Student protests, examining the transformational impact these movements have had on campus and beyond. The authors explore the specific dynamics of the Pro-Gaza protests across global university campuses, highlighting the arrest of thousands of students and the widespread calls for divestment from entities supporting Israel's actions in Gaza. Through a comprehensive review of the literature and empirical analysis of all the news accessed, this study underscores the persistent relevance of student activism in shaping societal and political landscapes, emphasizing the need for university administrations to strategically manage and engage with student movements to foster an environment of constructive dialogue and reform. The conclusion of this work emphasis that such protests would make many universities respond positively to these protests in the future by agreeing to divest from companies engaged with Israel, while others have opted for increased transparency or investment in programs that raise awareness about Palestine. This comprehensive review shows that the persistent move of student activism could shape both the US and Europe's societal and political landscapes. It would emphasize the need for university administrations to strategically manage and engage with student movements to foster an environment of constructive dialogue and reform, while avoiding the mistakes that started from Columbia University and escalated to many reputable high-learning institutions, besides appreciating the importance of calling for Palestinian rights.
